Pre-Saddle Room Snacks

It’s no secret, proper nutrition is vital for a strong performance in the Saddle Room; the energy required for sprints, hills, motorcycles, and power jumps can’t be sustained on Chainsmokers alone.

We are often asked what is the best way to fuel up for a 45 minute session at Grit Cycle? We went straight to the authorities, our instructors and front desk staff, and asked them how they best nourish for class.

Their pre-Saddle Room snacks varied just as much as their playlist preferences:

“I have a spoonful of Peanut Butter and a spoonful of honey! The perfect balance of protein and sugar to get me through the workout!” –Abby

“Bananas.” Sara

Coffee… it’s early.“-Jess

For the morning: “coffee.”  In the afternoon: “an apple with almond butter and cinnamon.“-Alex

If I’m taking a morning class it’s always 2 fried eggs 🍳 and 2-3 pieces of turkey bacon 🥓 with some berries and sparkling water. If I’m taking a class after work and before dinner it’s usually a No Cow Bar – and sometimes…if I’m feeling really tired after work I have an Iced Almond Milk Latte to go with it!“-Lauren

“Aside from the Skittles in my mic bag just in case, these bars {Perfect Bars} are my fav. I only eat half before class and the other half after! I don’t like to ride on a full stomach! Just a little gets me feeling ready.“-Nicci

1/2 Salted Caramel Power Crunch Bar and Beachbody Energize pre-workout powder. -Marisa Affeldt

“I’m not a believer of doing “fasted cardio” and I always have a better workout if I have a little something in my stomach. I aim for 100-150 calories about 60 minutes before my workouts or before I teach.  I usually go with half of a bar. I love that Costco carries the mini version of Perfect Bars.  It’s the “perfect” portion. They are easy to digest and they are organic.” –Cassie

“My favorite pre-spin snack! Orgain Vegan Vanilla protein shakes…..oh yeah and Dark Matter coffee.”Dani

A big believer in the Bulletproof Coffee theory, Shannon Roberts is never without her Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, Bullet Proof oil, and ghee coffee before she teaches. She also washes it down with some B12 lozenges.

“If it’s a morning class, I will have a light breakfast of a hard-boiled egg and an apple or some sort of fruit. I’ll also do an almond milk smoothie, with protein powder and frozen organic cherries or some other sort of berry. In the PM, I might do a little peanut butter on an apple, or an avocado with lemon juice, olive oil, and red pepper flakes.”Marisa

GOMACRO bars- the peanut butter chocolate chipAllie Brown

“I usually have a banana before morning classes. For a class later in the day {or if I happen to be out of bananas,} a protein shake with almond milk works great! Sun Warrior organic plant protein powder is my jam right now.” –Maddy

“For the pre-class snacks I drink a fuel before every class.”Molly

Depending on the time of day our staff powers up with protein, complex carbs, electrolytes and good ol’ caffeine.
