Actor and Activist, Gary Sinise believes, “Freedom and security are precious gifts that we, as Americans, should never take for granted. We must do all we can to extend our hand in times of need to those who willingly sacrifice each day to provide that freedom and security. While we can never do enough to show gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more;” we at, Grit Cycle couldn’t agree more, and that is why we are honored to sponsor The Gary Sinise Foundation for the month of July.

We might not take the burden or the risk of putting our lives out on the lines, defending our nation, but taking care of these men and women when they return home is the least we can do.

Many veterans face physical, emotional and psychological challenges unimaginable to us; just as harrowing and frustrating as the ones they saw on battlefront; the Gary Sinise Foundation seeks to support those who make the sacrifice to defend our country, this includes all active duty, veterans, first responders, and their loved ones.

The Gary Sinise Foundation has created nine specific programs to support these heroes:

The R.I.S.E. program {Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment} builds specially adapted “smart homes” for veterans who have been wounded defending our nation.

In order to raise spirits and funds, Gary Sinise’s own rock-n-roll band, Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Bandtours the country and world entertaining troops.

With their Soaring Valor program, the Gary Sinise Foundation makes it possible for our bravest to visit the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.

It’s not just our veterans and soldiers who make the ultimate sacrifice, but also their loved ones; with the Invincible Spirit Festival these additional heroes are celebrated with a day-long festival of music, rides, games and family fun.

Nothing offers an opportunity to bond and give thanks quite like breaking bread together“–at least that’s the idea behind the Serving Heroes program. So far the Gary Sinise Foundation has been able to serve over 80,000 meals to our nation’s heroes.

As a founding member of one of the nation’s most prestigious theater houses Gary Sinise was able to gain special access for our nation’s defenders. He founded the Arts & Entertainment Outreach program, whereby “anyone who has served our nation may join us for dinner and a dress rehearsal performance by one of the world’s premier theatre groups absolutely free of charge.”

“We really enjoyed it and were especially touched that the Foundation was so kind to sponsor so many vets. I’m looking forward to hopefully attending more.”

-Maggie Dewan-Smith, Vets Night Attendee

Trauma, injury, and shock can happen at any time; and oftentimes it is life-altering. The Relief + Resiliency Program was created to provide “complete support” to those in urgent need AND their loved ones.

Our first responders, America’s firefighters, police, and EMTs, defend the safety of our nation everyday. The Gary Sinise Foundation seeks to ensure they are recognized and supported. The First Responders Outreach seeks to provide our brave defenders at home with proper equipment, training, and backing.

Grit Cycle is providing two Karma Rides, where every dollar raised will go to the Gary Sinise Foundation.

The first ride will take place at our Monarch Beach studio on Tuesday July 25th @ 6:45pm with Lisa Mikelson and Steph Castro.

The second ride will take place at our Costa Mesa studio on Friday July 28th @ 12:00pm with Leigh Beach and Katie Osumi.
