Grit Cycle’s Summer Anthems

Believe it or not, when we leave the Saddle Room, we’re not all jammin’ out to bend ova or drop that kitty. When we’re bbq’ing with the family or relaxing at the beach, it’s not all Chainsmokers + Skrillex. Our musical taste does have some genre variance once the eucalyptus towels are passed around.

Nothing beats a great summer anthem; we all have those songs or THAT song which evokes the smell of suntan lotion, the feeling of sand sticking to your havaianas, and the sound of a good time with friends and family lingering late into the warmer nights.

We asked our Grit Cycle staff to come up with their favorite summer anthems and, as always, they didn’t disappoint.

Instructor Nicci Morris says “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake is a family favorite; “This is on at least once a day in my house! My daughters groove like crazy to it! It’s a great beach day jam too, you can’t help but shake your tail feather and smile when it’s playing.”

Nicci also couldn’t resist “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber.

Our newest Monarch Beach instructor, Elizabeth Tracy, is also a Timberlake fan. She added a few other favorites: “Feel Good Incby Gorilla, “Buzzin“‘ by Shwayze, “Passionfruitby Drake, “Ride Wit Meby Nelly, + “Señoritaby Justin Timberlake. Elizabeth says, “these make me think of driving down PCH with a car full of friends, milkshakes in hand, sunglasses on, head nodding to the beat in the sunshine.”

Kaitlin Honeycutt  picked American Kids by Kenny Chesney, and then said, I’d also like to add ‘Riptide‘ by Vance Joy, Ammmmiiiiirightttt.”

Alex Vallejo divulged a little known fact with her pick: “Barefoot Blue Jean Night‘ – Jake Owen. There you have it…. my secret is out… Alex likes county!! Oh and ‘Boys of Summer‘ by Don Henley.”

Instructor Leigh’s summer jam is “Thong Song” by Sisqo

Gritty Babe Marisa chose two epic anthems with Walking on a Dream” by Empire of the Sun, and Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved.”

Instructor Shannon Roberts opted for Bob Marley too: “Pimper’s Paradise” is my fave!”

On those lazy summer nights,” Gritty Babe, Abby Parsons, couldn’t pick a more perfect song than Otis Redding’s “{Sittin’ On} The Dock of the Bay.

We want to go to Gritty Babe Andrea’s pool party, because her playlist includes: “Panama” by Van Halen {because it’s (her) favorite day drinking song,} “Izzo“by JayZ and “California Love” by Tupac.

Gritty Babe Carley keeps us hip and current with her picks “American Teen” by Khalid, “Ivy” by Frank Ocean, and
Greenlight” by Lorde.

Our girl Maddy says, Oye 2014” by Santana is a coooool remix!! Or anything else by Santana.

Jessica Ginsberg keeps it old skool with “Around the Way Girl” by LL Cool J.

We dare you to sit on a barstool when Dani plays her pick, “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie.

Gritty Babe Gretchen Westgaard keeps it chill and classic with the Eagles’ “Hotel California.

Our Steph Castro-Woods says she is “in love” with Cheat Codes’ “No Promises;” it is “my song for SUMMER.”

But for the ultimate road trip we’re riding in Marisa Wayne’s car! Our BossLady picked the best summer anthems by far:  “Drift Away” by Dobie Gray, “All Summer Long” by Kid Rock, “Chicken Fried” and “Toes” by Zac Brown, “Soak Up the Sun” by Sheryl Crow,  “This is Life” by Kolohe Kai, “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” by John Legend, and anything by Kenny Chesney + Jimmy Buffett.

Did you know Grit Cycle has a Spotify Account? Do you follow us? We are looking to make this account much more interactive so that you can get songs from instructors and see what they’re listening to on and off the bike.

For example here is our Grit Cycle Summer Anthem Playlist.

Let us know what YOUR ultimate summer anthem is, and also what other playlists you’d like to see from us.

Happy Weekend Gritties—shake your groove thang!
