ACV—yeah you know me!

Everywhere you read, people are touting their love for apple cider vinegar {aka ACV.}

High in enzymes, protein, and friendly bacteria, ACV is also anti-oxidant + amino acid rich.

Traditionally used for cleaning or disinfecting, ACV is essentially a vinegar {acetic acid} and can kill bacteria.

ACV has been “proven to lower insulin sensitivity during a high-carb meal by 19-34% and significantly lowers blood glucose and insulin responses.” Many people also say consumption increases satiety, therefore weight loss has also been a documented effect.

ACV contains the anti-oxidant, chlorogenic acid, a crucial weapon in the fight against cholesterol disease. In some studies ACV has also been shown to reduce blood pressure.

We asked around and weren’t surprised that our staff adores ACV and consumes this miracle tonic for so much more than just the above mentioned.

Here’s what they had to say:

Instructor Rebecca tells it plain and simple: “I shoot that sh!t straight every morning – take a big ole swig from a gallon bottle. Although I used to love warming it up with a little apple juice, water, and cinnamon.”

Instructor and BossGIRL Dani swears by ACV too. She, like most of the staff, is partial to Bragg’s.

 I take at least one shot a day. Braggs ACV. Down the hatch. No chaser. If I am feeling ambitious I take two. It has helped with my digestion issues tremendously.

I swear by this drink when I start to feel sick: ¼ cup ACV, ¼ cup Hot Water, 1 tbsp. Manuka Honey, 1 tsp. of cayenne pepper + one full fresh organic lemon. I drink it morning and night. I always thought Wild Turkey was the cure for a cold until I tried this magic elixir.

Gritty Babe Zoey drinks ACV for the “health benefits; I used to try to do shots, but I can’t stomach it.”

Now she says, “I use it in salad dressings and sometimes smoothies {if the smoothie has berries in it.}

Instructor Katie uses ACV to get her water in throughout the day.

I absolutely HATE drinking plain water. But I’ve recently concocted my dream mocktail. I put my two shots of ACV into my soda stream bottle. I add lemon and sometimes a bit of turmeric if I want to feel extra “glowy.” The bubbles make me feel like a fancy girl, and the lemon and spice make it delicious.

Gritty Babe Gretchen is a huge fan of what she calls the “magical ACV.” “I fill a tall shot glass with ACV, pure lemon juice, and a splash of water and shoot it every morning when I first wake up, then follow that with a big ol glass of water. I also use a mixture of 1/2 ACV & 1/2 water as a toner on my face! Love love love it!”

Instructor of the month, Allie Brown, uses Apple Cider Vinegar, to unwind at the end of the day: “I put 1 quart of ACV in my bath and soak in it for 20 minutes. It’s good for your digestive system, your skin, your hair and it helps you sleep.”

Instructor Shannon likes to take hers straight from the bottle….that is as long as it’s concord grape and acai-flavored. Bragg’s also makes delicious all natural organic apple cider vinegar beverages to drink.

 Are you an Apple Cider Vinegar fan too? How do you like to consume this favorite tonic?

Let us know! We love hearing from our Gritties.
