A Day in the Life of Maddy Post!

Maddy Post you are one in a million!

The contagious energy and youthful spirit of this powerhouse makes her a staff and client favorite. We are so thrilled to announce her as Monarch Beach’s Instructor of the Month for April!

We first got to know Maddy last year, here, so we thought we’d ask her to give us a glimpse into a day in her adventurous life. Whether scaling mountains, jumping off cliffs, or sliding down sand dunes, Maddy is always on the move. We apparently caught our girl on a “mellow,” work day.

Here’s a look at our dynamo’s day:

Where to start. Welp, every day is actually completely different as far as my week goes, so let’s just go ahead and pick Thursday. Thursday is one of my favorite days of the week because it starts with Grit Cycle – Monarch Beach! It’s also the chillest day of my week, so it’s a fun day to talk about.

6:20AM – Alarm Rings

I prefer to set my alarm for the last possible moment I can wake up without being late…and wake up then. When I play the snooze button game I feel like I’m just being mean to myself. Ain’t nobody got time to be abruptly interrupted mid-dream more than once in one morning. My current alarm is this weirdly awesome drum circle beat that starts out kind of mellow and then really gets going if I don’t get up and turn it off.

I get up, brush my teeth, and get dressed in the best “work” clothes imaginable – usually #GoldsheepClothing. {conveniently available at GRIT Monarch Beach for all your spin outfit needs.} Next, I make pre-breakfast. Real breakfast is for after spin. Pre-breakfast is just something light to get me going and I use the time to go through the morning’s playlist. I’ll switch around a few songs, add in something new, just depends on what I’m feeling that morning.

7:05AM – Depart for Monarch Beach

Hopefully I haven’t forgotten where I parked my car…that does happen every so often… #Peninsulaproblems. Once my car has been located, I head down to South County! Tuesdays & Thursdays pretty much rock because my morning commute to Monarch Beach is literally along the ocean down PCH, bumping kick-ass jams, usually while warming up my vocal chords aka singing my playlist the entire way. {This past week Sia’s – “Alive” was my Hill song, soo that was entertaining}.

My fav part of the drive is this view right here:

You know it’s totally your favorite part toooo!

7:40AM – 7:45AM

Head into Grit Monarch Beach – Catch up with the babes {+ Adam} and admire all the new retail I absolutely neeeeed to purchase. Then, I head into the spin room to set up some jams.

7:45AM – 8:00AM

Run through the playlist one more time…make sure none of the songs have spontaneously decided to delete themselves from Spotify in the time it took me to walk from my car to the spin room…because I mean, you never know. I set up my bike & mic, set the lights, and head back to the lobby to greet everyone’s glorious smiling faces.

8:15AM – 9:00AM

Spin-party jam sesh commences. There’s no party like a Grit party!

9:00AM ish

The next few minutes are probably my favorite part of the morning. Everyone is on a spin high and totally stoked on life. I wave goodbye to the peeps from my class and say hello to the ones coming in for the next class and then I get to pick my own bike for the 9:30 class.

Thursday’s are the chillest day of the week for me. I only teach one class so as long I don’t have anywhere else to be, you bet I am right back in the saddle room for the 9:30AM class.

9:00AM – 9:30AM

Usually around now I’ll drink a protein shake or whatever snacks I’ve brought with me. Fav snacks between classes include: fruit because I just really love fruit. Apple + almond butter has been a good one recently or an entire of box of blueberries. Next, I make a stop at Jess’s office for some glitter. She always has glitter and it smells nice. So whenever I remember, I make a pit stop there to be glittered.

9:30AM – 10:15AM

45 super sweaty, extra rowdy spin party minutes lead by the one and only Jessica Ginsberg.

10:30AM ish

And nowww I’m ready to take on the rest of the day! Time to head back home.

11:00AM

My bff roomie works from home/everywhere else in the world so if she’s not anywhere else in the world…she’s home. We make something epic and colorful for breakfast…or well brunch I guess by then. I get on different kicks with food and I want the same thing like every morning until I’m sick of it.

Current breakfast kick = Egg-in-a-hole: like literally you cut out a hole in a piece of whole grain bread and drop an egg into it and cook it up. Couple that with sweet potatoes + rosemary (gotta add the rosemary), sauté up some spinach, red onion, and tomato. BOMB.

12:00PM

After breakfast, I do everything else.

“Everything else” that occurs on Thursdays include, but is not limited to: grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning the house, running errands & catching up on life, walking down to the beach to look at the ocean, hunting for new music, making new playlists, and working on some freelance stuff I do for my other job.

Occasionally I’ll teach/sub another class on Thursdays, so if that’s the case you can find me spinning again. Honestly I’m not even sure where the time goes, but all of a sudden it’s time for yoga!

6:30PM – 7:30PM

Yoga.

Mondays & Thursdays are currently my yoga days so that’s another reason why Thursdays rock. Literally could not physically function spinning as many times a week as I do without my weekly yoga sessions. Yoga compliments spin perfectly.

7:35PM

Head back home, make something delicious for dinner, pack up my things for the next day, and take the rest of the evening to do me.

This is the time i’ll call my besties and chat on the phone for way too long discussing all the trips we want to go on. I fully suck at texting…sooo if you’ve texted me at any point during the day, this is usually the time of day when you’ll hear back from me.

Recently I’ve been taking this time to browse Travel Pirates and Hopper {best travel apps ever,} and brainstorm/research whatever trip I’m planning next. Weekend warrior excursions, road trips, or big international travels – I really enjoy planning and have a massive ongoing list of things I want to do and see in my life.

I know it’s corny, but travel really is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.

10:00PM

Time for bed.

Gotta be up bright and early Friday morning for my 7AM class at GRIT Cycle – Costa Mesa!
