For many of us Orange County natives, “junior guards” was a childhood, summertime, rite of passage; whereby the bulk of our July and August was spent on the sand, clad in fire-engine red shorts, nosecoated in pink zinka, freaking out about the monster mile and pier jump we were expected to complete come summer’s end.

Others of us have witnessed junior guards as parents. As we prep for the for “Sunday morning swim test” with the same anxiety saved for college entrance exams, or stealthily stalk along in the car the first morning our kids want to “beach cruise” their way to “guards,” alone, with their friends.

Whether through first-hand, personal experience, as a parent, neighbor, or friend, we’ve all witness the important and lasting impact junior guards has made on the community through its teaching of ocean safety.

Junior Guards is an institution in this community, and we at Grit Cycle are tickled to support the Newport Beach Junior Guards Foundation {NBJGF} for the month of June.

Privately funded, and one hundred percent, non-profit, The Newport Beach Junior Guards Foundation was created by former Junior Lifeguard instructors and leaders in the community to “ensure” the “quality” and “tradition” of the Junior Lifeguard Beach Safety Program.

You can help donate to this beloved, community tradition by riding one or two of our karma rides:

Wednesday June 8th at 4:15pm with Dani

Wednesday June 22 at 4:15pm with Chelsea

If you are unable to make either ride we still accept donations all month at the front desk.

We thank you for the support and hope to see you there.
