Meet Grit instructor of the month, Kelli Collins.
Our own “tiny dancer,” Kelli started dancing at 3 years old. She has performed nationally and internationally, including at The Kennedy Center. For 4 years she assisted Siegfried and Roy in their famous Las Vegas show. She also performed at Ceasars Palace and The Aladdin. Michael Jackson tops her favorites as the celebrity she most enjoyed performing for AND hanging out with. Kelli comes from a family of athletes, her father is an Anaheim Angel and her husband is a professional tennis instructor.
Let’s get to know a little more about our new dynamo!
What brought you to the GritCycle podium?
My girlfriends heard there was an audition and I had to go! From the Big Stage to the Grit Podium.
What was your first experience in the Saddle Room?
I took a class from the hot, pink + inked, Dani, and I was hooked for life! Dancing on a bike! Hell Yeah! My first ride in the saddle room was a moment I will never forget. It was so amazing; the energy, the lights and the music pumpin; it was off the hook! I had no idea what moves were what at first, but I was determined to become the best at it! The hardest part for me was clipping my shoes in, LOL! I still think it’s funny when I can’t get them in, quick!
What motivates you?
Motivation for me is knowing I have riders I know will be taking the class. I want them to feel empowered by their own strength. We all have goals, body and mind, and I want every rider to feel like they are making changes, small or big. I love making others feel their best.
Do you have any pre-class rituals?
Before I teach, I have a pre-class ritual: I make a green juice, grab a coffee, then sit down and listen to my playlist. I am big on visualizing my ride and form.
What’s your favorite “move” on the bike and why?
MY favorite move on a bike are “tap backs to crunches” because it’s such a rush to pull back over that saddle with full range of motion, and the move just speaks to me. I JUST LOVE IT!
What is your favorite/trademark song to teach?
My favorite song to teach to is Lindsey Sterling’s “Shatter Me;” it’s about a ballerina in snow globe, breaking out and being real; like me, opening up to a new life of spin. It has an insane beat with a violin….love!!
What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is Mexican; I want the hottest salsa I can get.
Who is your celebrity crush?
My celebrity crush for sure is Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy! Hot damn, I would saddle up for his ride! LOL!
Who would play you in a movie?
Either Christina Applegate or Leslie Mann; the celebrity I get told I look like the most is Catherine Keener or Sheryl Crow.
What’s your biggest guilty pleasure ?
My biggest guilty pleasure is cheese, chocolate and beer.
What do you do when you’re not getting gritty?
When I’m not getting gritty I love being active so going to the gym, running on the beach, and spending time with my husband & sweet pitbull, Samantha, makes me so happy. I’m a gypsy worker like my mom; I do anything I put my mind to, and only things I love. I’m a makeup artist, and work at Mutt Lynchs on the weekends. I teach dance, and I manage a little prodigy of my studio I closed recently.
Thanks so much Miss Kelli for sharing your time with us. Make sure you catch Kelli in the saddle room on Thursday’s at 4:15pm…her code for a free class with her during the month of September is “tinydancer.”
